About Michelle

Michelle Wiberg is a lifelong lover of books, art-maker, and resident of southeastern Wisconsin.

Exploring the Rocky Mountains moved to the top of her bucket list at the age of twelve, when she found a book about Colorado at a bookmobile. Skiing in Wisconsin whet her appetite for Colorado’s ski areas, and trips to Breckenridge led to the purchase of a vacation condo there—base camp for years of adventures for Michelle and her husband, along with their two children, extended family, and friends. The breathtaking beauty, storied history, and sense of adventure the American West inspires were the genesis for the Persephone’s Garden series.

The series draws upon the classic Greek myth of Persephone and Hades as a metaphor for moments when life takes an unforeseen descent into uncharted territory. Set in the Colorado Rockies during an apocalyptic power-grid collapse, AspenRidge, Michelle’s debut novel, is a story of love, hope and resilience.

When she’s not writing, you can find Michelle hiking, biking, gardening, cooking, or working on mixed media art and jewelry in her home studio, while listening to audio books.

AspenRidge will be released May 14, 2026 by Black Rose Writing and is now available for preorder

AspenRidge

Persephone’s Garden | Book One

“We all experience underworld journeys, times when it seems like the life we knew was hijacked, and the world is suddenly unrecognizable.” — “Grammie” Rose Evans in AspenRidge

When her clairvoyant grandmother has a vision of imminent catastrophe, Jessie feels like her life as an emerging artist was hijacked, along with all her plans and dreams for the future.

Jessie, and her dog, Wolfie, flee with Grammie to AspenRidge, their isolated off-grid retreat in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. The next day, a cyber-attack destroys the power-grid. While AspenRidge provides most of life’s necessities, the cities they left behind are an unrecognizable underworld of chaos, and Jessie fears her father won’t make it home from his conference in England.

After a brutal winter, Jessie meets Shawn, a combat veteran who struggled with PTSD. In a story woven with myth and magic amid the beauty and storied history of the American West, Jessie and Shawn navigate the dangers and challenges of a post-apocalyptic world. They must face their deepest fears, and discover if love can survive the uncertainties of their strange new world.
